Unite has specific server and workstation requirements that are separate from the TRIOS scanner hardware requirements and are frequently overlooked when a practice first sets up 3Shape.
Ekim IT Solutions is the dental-exclusive IT provider that configures and maintains 3Shape Unite environments for dental practices across Maine, New England, Tampa Bay, and nationwide. 3Shape Unite is the case management and communication platform that connects dental practices with dental labs, enabling digital case submission, design sharing, and workflow management for practices using 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanners and other digital dentistry workflows.
3Shape Unite is a separate software platform from 3Shape TRIOS with its own distinct system requirements. A workstation or server that meets TRIOS scanner requirements does not automatically meet Unite server requirements for a multi-workstation deployment.
3Shape Unite supports two deployment modes. In a standalone configuration, Unite runs on a single workstation and stores case data locally. In a client-server configuration, Unite runs a central server that stores all case data and serves multiple client workstations simultaneously. Multi-workstation dental practices should use the client-server configuration to enable shared case access across all relevant workstations. The server requirements are meaningfully higher than the standalone workstation requirements.
Ekim IT Solutions configures 3Shape Unite servers to these specifications.
Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022.
Consumer Windows 10 or 11 is not supported for the Unite server role in a multi-workstation deployment.
Minimum 16GB for the Unite server.
32GB recommended for practices with high case volume or multiple simultaneous workstation connections.
SSD or NVMe storage is required for the Unite server.
Traditional spinning hard drives cause significant performance degradation with large TRIOS scan files and case data. Minimum 512GB, with 1TB or more recommended for practices with substantial historical case data.
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
16GB minimum for client workstations accessing Unite, with 32GB recommended for workstations also running TRIOS scanning software.
SSD strongly recommended for client workstations. Spinning hard drives cause case file load delays.
Wired gigabit ethernet connection between client workstations and the Unite server. Wireless connections are not recommended for high-volume case transfer.
3Shape Unite transfers large scan files between client workstations and the server. A wired gigabit ethernet connection is required between the Unite server and all client workstations that regularly access case data. Wireless connections introduce latency that becomes noticeable during case loading and file transfer, particularly for CBCT and large intraoral scan files. Ekim IT Solutions confirms wired gigabit connections for every Unite server and primary client workstation as part of standard 3Shape Unite configuration.
Check each item currently confirmed in place before going live with a client-server 3Shape Unite deployment.
Server runs Windows Server 2019 or 2022, not consumer Windows 10 or 11
Server has at least 16GB RAM, with 32GB for high case volume
Server uses SSD or NVMe storage, not spinning hard drives
Client workstations run Windows 10 or 11 64-bit with adequate RAM
Wired gigabit ethernet connects every client workstation to the server, not WiFi
Ekim IT Solutions works exclusively with dental practices. We serve New England and New York with on-site support and dental practices nationwide with remote support.
