CareStack is a cloud-based all-in-one system designed to consolidate practice management, billing, patient communication, and reporting into a single platform. Switching from Eaglesoft to CareStack is one of the more significant infrastructure changes a dental practice can make.
Here is what to prepare.
CareStack is designed for practices that want to reduce the number of tools they manage. Most Eaglesoft practices run four to six third-party tools alongside the core software.
The consolidation CareStack offers is real, but the migration requires replacing or retiring each of those tools in a planned sequence. Doing it without a checklist creates gaps in billing, patient communication, and reporting during the transition. Map every current tool before the migration date is set.
Eaglesoft is built to work closely with Patterson Dental products. Patterson Imaging, Patterson payment tools, and Patterson support services are all designed around the Eaglesoft platform. When you switch to CareStack, those connections no longer apply.
Before committing to a migration date, audit every Patterson-connected tool your practice currently uses. Determine which ones have a CareStack equivalent, which ones can continue operating independently, and which ones need to be replaced entirely.

Patient records migrate through CareStack's onboarding team
CareStack's onboarding team manages the data conversion from Eaglesoft. Patient records, treatment history, and scheduling data migrate through their process. Before conversion begins, your IT provider should create a verified backup of your entire Eaglesoft database stored in C:\Eaglesoft\Data. Keep the Eaglesoft server accessible for at least 60 days after go-live.
Patterson Imaging requires separate evaluation before migration day
Imaging data is handled separately. Patterson Imaging stores data in a proprietary format. Confirm with CareStack which imaging platforms integrate natively and whether historical imaging can be migrated or must remain accessible through a separate Eaglesoft installation. Discovering an incompatibility on go-live day is far more disruptive than resolving it beforehand.
Check each item your IT provider has confirmed is complete before the CareStack migration date is set.
