Unlike most dental software where any compliant workstation will do, 3Shape requires specific approved PC hardware for TRIOS scanner operation. Running a TRIOS scanner on a workstation not listed in 3Shape’s approved PC catalog means 3Shape cannot guarantee proper scanner function.

Here are the 2026 system requirements for 3Shape TRIOS based on the PC Catalog 25.1 and current 3Shape specifications.

The Most Important Hardware Compliance Requirement for TRIOS

3Shape explicitly states that proper TRIOS scanner operation cannot be guaranteed on PCs not listed in their approved PC catalog.

Network Requirements

Required between the 3Shape Unite server and all client workstations. CBCT and scan files are large and slow network connections cause significant delays in file transfer and image loading.

Wireless connections 50 Mbps effective

Minimum effective upload and download speed between the wireless client and the Unite server. This is the effective throughput at the client, not the advertised router speed.

A typical TRIOS order of 30MB takes approximately 30 seconds to transfer on a standard connection. Practices with high scan volumes should ensure their network infrastructure can handle concurrent file transfers without impacting daily workflow. Wired connections to the Unite server are strongly preferred over wireless for scanning workstations.

TRIOS MOVE and TRIOS POD Configurations

TRIOS MOVE is a mobile scanning unit that includes its own integrated computer. Most TRIOS MOVE+ units are compatible with Windows 11. First-generation TRIOS MOVE+ units (shipping since April 2019) require a Windows 11 upgrade. Second-generation TRIOS MOVE+ units (shipping since September 2023) come with Windows 11 pre-installed.

TRIOS POD configurations use an external workstation connected to the scanner via the POD interface. The POD workstation must be selected from 3Shape’s approved PC list for proper scanner operation.
