If your Dentrix is running slow, crashing, or struggling after an update, hardware is usually the first thing to check.
Here are the official 2026 Dentrix system requirements from Henry Schein, plus what they actually mean for your practice in plain language.
⚠️
Windows 10 support ended in October 2025. After June 30, 2026, Henry Schein will no longer support installing Dentrix on Windows 10. If any of your workstations are still on Windows 10, upgrading to Windows 11 is not optional. It is a compliance and security requirement.

These are minimums. For a practice with more than 10 workstations or heavy imaging use, you should budget for higher RAM and faster storage on the server side.
What These Specs Mean for Your Practice
Windows 10 is on its way out
Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025. Henry Schein will stop supporting Dentrix on Windows 10 after June 30, 2026. If you have workstations still running Windows 10, upgrading to Windows 11 needs to be on your IT schedule now.
SSD storage is no longer optional
Both servers and workstations now require SSD or NVMe drives. If your server is still running traditional hard drives, that is likely the cause of any slowness you are experiencing. An SSD upgrade is one of the fastest performance wins available.
16 GB RAM is the new standard
The minimum for servers is 16 GB. For workstations, 16 GB is recommended. Practices running Dentrix on 8 GB workstations with imaging software open will feel the strain. Budget for 16 GB across all machines if you want a smooth experience.
1 Gbps network is required
Both servers and workstations require a 1 Gbps network connection. If any operatory is on a slower connection or running on Wi-Fi, you will see slowness especially when loading imaging files.
Not sure if your hardware meets the 2026 Dentrix standard? We can assess your setup and tell you exactly what needs upgrading.
Windows Server Essentials and Small Business editions are not supported due to port conflicts with backups.
Wireless networks are used at your own risk. Dentrix recommends Wireless AC or higher if Wi-Fi is used, but wired is always preferred for operatories.
Terminal Services and Citrix thin client setups are not supported with standard Dentrix.
Dentrix has been tested on Hyper-V and VMware virtual machines, but Henry Schein support will not help resolve virtual machine issues.
Antivirus software is recommended on all computers but should be configured to exclude the Dentrix program directory.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dentrix will run slowly, crash more frequently, and have compatibility issues during updates. Meeting minimum specs keeps the software stable. Meeting recommended specs keeps it fast.
Yes. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support in October 2025 and Henry Schein will stop supporting Dentrix on Windows 10 after June 30, 2026. Staying on Windows 10 after that date creates security and compliance gaps.
Very likely. If your server is more than five years old, running traditional hard drives instead of SSD, or has less than 16 GB of RAM, hardware is almost certainly contributing to the slowness. A dental IT provider can assess your setup and tell you exactly where the gap is.
Yes — it needs far less on-site hardware since data lives in the cloud. You still need a reliable computer and fast internet connection, but you do not need a local server.
