When an X-ray was taken but is not appearing where the dental team expects it in Dentrix, the problem can be frustrating. The image may exist in the imaging system but fail to appear correctly inside the patient’s chart.
When a Dentrix X-ray is missing, first determine whether the image exists in the imaging application.
Before troubleshooting the chart, determine whether the X-ray exists anywhere. Check the imaging software directly.
If the image exists in the imaging application but not in Dentrix, you may be dealing with an integration, association, configuration, or synchronization problem rather than a failed X-ray capture.
Verify that the image was captured under the correct patient record. Dentrix’s imaging workflow is designed around selecting the patient chart and then launching image acquisition from that patient context.
If the image was captured through a separate imaging application, verify the correct patient there as well.
Determine whether the problem happens with one sensor, one X-ray workstation, one operatory, or every imaging device.
If only one workstation has the problem, compare its configuration with a working computer. If every operatory has the same issue, investigate the shared imaging environment.
Dentrix provides integrated imaging workflows and supports a broad range of imaging devices. A change to workstation software, device drivers, imaging applications, network paths, permissions, or integration settings can disrupt the workflow.

Many dental practices rely on networked imaging infrastructure. Check Ethernet connections, switches, network latency, server connectivity, shared storage, firewall rules, and wireless connections where applicable.
If images appear to be missing, do not start deleting databases, reinstalling imaging software, or changing storage locations without a backup and recovery plan.
Before significant changes, confirm current backups, where images are stored, which application owns the image repository, whether another workstation can access the images, and whether the image can be recovered.
Work through these six steps in order. Tap a step to mark it done.
Confirm the image exists.
Confirm the correct patient.
Check the imaging workstation.
Check Dentrix integration.
Check network and storage access.
Confirm backups before changing the image environment.
