Planmeca Romexis System Requirements in 2026

Planmeca Romexis system requirements for 2026 covering workstation and server specifications for 2D imaging, CBCT, and intraoral scanning.

Planmeca Romexis is one of the most widely used dental imaging platforms, supporting 2D digital X-rays, panoramic imaging, CBCT 3D imaging, and intraoral scanning in a single software environment. It is the imaging platform used in practices running Planmeca equipment, which includes Aspen Dental’s nationwide network following a 2025 partnership agreement.

Romexis has significantly higher hardware requirements than standard practice management software, particularly for 3D CBCT imaging. Here are the 2026 system requirements based on Planmeca’s official published specifications.

The Most Important Thing to Know Before Speccing Romexis Hardware

Romexis 3D CBCT imaging has some of the most demanding workstation requirements in dental software.

A workstation that runs 2D imaging in Romexis adequately may be completely insufficient for CBCT acquisition and rendering. The processor, GPU, and RAM requirements jump significantly when 3D imaging is involved. Confirm which modules your practice will use before specifying hardware.

Romexis Server Requirements

Romexis runs on a client-server architecture for multi-workstation practices. The Romexis server stores image data and serves it to client workstations. For single-operatory practices, images can be stored locally on the workstation. For multi-operatory practices, a dedicated Romexis server is strongly recommended.

Operating System Windows Server 2025 (64-bit) or Windows 11 Pro (64-bit). macOS Sequoia and Tahoe are also supported as server operating systems.
Processor Intel Core i3 (6th gen+) minimum Higher specification recommended for practices with many simultaneous users. Consult your IT provider for server sizing based on your specific CBCT unit and user count.
RAM Scales with simultaneous users Server RAM requirements scale with the number of simultaneous users and the CBCT unit connected. Planmeca recommends consulting your IT provider for server sizing based on your specific configuration.
Storage Sized for CBCT image volume CBCT datasets are significantly larger than 2D X-ray images. Storage requirements should be sized based on your anticipated scan volume and retention policy. Consult your IT provider before purchasing server hardware.
Gigabit Ethernet between the Romexis server and all client workstations is required. CBCT image files are large and slow network connections cause significant delays in image loading. Consumer-grade networking equipment that does not support full Gigabit throughput is not appropriate for a multi-workstation Romexis deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, with limitations. Romexis supports macOS Sequoia and Tahoe for standard 2D imaging functions. The Cephalometric Analysis module and the CAD/CAM software module are Windows only and are not supported on macOS. Practices using those modules must use Windows workstations for that function.
For multi-workstation practices, a dedicated Romexis server is recommended for storing image data and serving it to client workstations. Single-workstation setups can run Romexis in a standalone configuration without a separate server. Your IT provider should assess your practice’s workstation count and imaging volume before deciding on the deployment model.
An NVIDIA RTX A3000 or better is required for full Romexis 3D imaging performance. The Romexis Smart AI features require a 4GB NVIDIA GPU at minimum. Integrated graphics cards built into standard workstation processors are not sufficient for CBCT rendering and will result in slow or failed 3D image processing.
Planmeca updates system requirements with major Romexis software versions. IT providers managing Romexis installations should review requirements before any major Romexis software update and before purchasing new imaging hardware. The requirements listed here reflect the published 2026 specifications for Romexis 6.
