Dentimax offers two separate products: imaging software and practice management software, each with its own system requirements. The open platform design of Dentimax imaging is one of its biggest selling points, but open compatibility does not mean every sensor performs equally out of the box.
Here are the 2026 system requirements for both Dentimax products based on published technical specifications, with IT guidance for practices evaluating or already running the platform.
Dentimax imaging’s open platform design works with virtually any dental sensor brand rather than requiring proprietary hardware.
This is one of its biggest advantages for practices that want to use third-party sensors or switch sensor brands without switching imaging software. However, open compatibility does not mean all sensors perform equally. Image quality, capture speed, and software stability can vary by sensor brand. Your IT provider should test the specific sensor hardware with Dentimax in your operatory environment before the practice goes live.
Dentimax imaging runs locally on workstations and supports both server-based and standalone configurations.
Windows 10 or 11. Windows 11 Pro recommended for all new purchases in 2026.
Windows 8 and 8.1 are end of life and should not be used in a HIPAA-compliant environment. Any new workstation purchase in 2026 should run Windows 11 Pro.
Windows Server 2016, 2019, or 2022.
For network-based configurations. Windows Server 2022 is also compatible with current Dentimax versions and is the recommended choice for any new server deployment.
Intel Core i5 or equivalent x86 processor minimum. Higher-performance processor recommended for high-resolution imaging workstations.
A current-generation i5 is sufficient for standard 2D imaging workstations. Workstations handling high-resolution imaging should be specced beyond the minimum. Do not use the same hardware spec for every workstation regardless of role.
4GB minimum per Dentimax spec. 16GB recommended in practice.
The published 4GB minimum reflects the software running in isolation. Any workstation running Dentimax imaging alongside practice management software simultaneously should have 16GB. 4GB will cause slowdowns in a real-world multi-application environment.
500GB hard drive minimum. SSD strongly recommended.
Dental imaging data accumulates quickly. An SSD significantly improves image loading and saving performance compared to a traditional hard drive. Do not deploy Dentimax imaging on a mechanical drive if performance matters.
Dentimax Flow is the cloud-based version of Dentimax practice management software. It has no local server requirement and runs through a browser.
Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11
Windows 11 Pro is recommended for all new workstations in 2026. Windows 10 reached end of life in October 2025 and is no longer a compliant choice for healthcare environments.
Browser: Current version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
The cloud platform is optimized for modern browsers with automatic updates enabled. Keep browsers current and disable any update restrictions applied by group policy.
Internet: 20 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload per active workstation minimum
A backup internet connection is recommended for practices running Dentimax Flow as their primary practice management system. A single internet outage without failover takes scheduling and billing offline simultaneously.
Dentimax Flow eliminates the server requirement for practice management but does not eliminate your internet dependency. Practices running both Dentimax Flow and Dentimax imaging need to account for bandwidth consumption from both platforms simultaneously when sizing their internet connection.
Dentimax supports virtually all dental sensors through standard TWAIN drivers. Select your sensor brand to see compatibility notes and what your IT provider should verify before go-live.
Gigabit Ethernet between workstations and the imaging server
Required for practices using network storage. Dentimax image files are large and slow network connections cause delays in image loading and saving that compound across a practice day.
Wired connections required for all imaging workstations
Wireless connections cause image transfer delays in Dentimax. Every workstation running Dentimax imaging must be hardwired to the network. No exceptions for imaging stations.
Network must allow Dentimax licensing server communication
Required for software activation and updates. Firewall rules that block outbound licensing traffic will cause activation failures. Your IT provider should confirm this traffic is permitted before deployment.
Practices running both Dentimax imaging on-premise and Dentimax Flow cloud need to account for both local network performance and internet bandwidth simultaneously. Size your internet connection for Dentimax Flow first, then confirm local network infrastructure meets Gigabit spec for imaging. These are two separate requirements that both need to be in place.
